The utilization of optimization tools may provide a significant increase in
competitiveness at modern companies. The application of such tools may
be suitable for almost every production activity. For the manufacturers of
power system equipment, the need for customized design for each project
demands considerable efforts from the project team on a day-to-day basis.
The development of appropriate tools for the design optimization of
electrical windings yields significant improvements in productivity of the
project team, with the proper exploration of the construction and design
alternatives available to the manufacturer. This thesis outlines na
optimization method with analytical and enumerative characteristics, which
take into consideration the technical requirements of the desired winding to
discard the inadequate solution alternatives. The development of simplified
calculation procedures allows the fast and comprehensive analysis of the
solution space, dispensing with large blocks and reducing the solution
space to a reasonable dimension for enumerative purposes. Accurate but
complex and computationally heavy models for calculation are replaced by
simple equations, with sufficient accuracy to provide a good comparative
analysis. The procedure was implemented for the design optimization of air
core circular coils.
