Resumo:
At the current industry scenario the productive processes grow everyday along with the
development of new materials and shape for tools as well as more effective machines. These
new technologies allow higher process flexibility as the replacement of grinding process of
hardened materials by turning. This change brings meaningful reductions in the tool costs, set
up time and machining. Following this technological evolution the methodology named
Design of Experiment (DOE) comes into existence. The DOE makes the experimentation
more effective once it is present in every industry that wants to keep competitive in the
market. Using the DOE allows more precise results with a fewer number of experiments
which brings a result in short time, reduced expenses with materials and tools for tests and
more reliable data. The study carried out in this paper is about the determination of the
machining condition to cut hardened ABNT 52100 steel with mixed ceramic tools, applying
the Design of Experiment on it. Tool life and surface finishing of the piece are analyzed. A
flank wear of 0,3 mm is adopted as end of tool life criterion. All the cutting parameters, when
in its highest values contributed to a meaningful tool life reduction while as for surface
roughness just the increase of feed rate showed meaningful influence.
