Resumo:
In 2001, Brazil had such a deficit of energy that it was necessary to increase the capacity of
generation installed in the country. One of the practical alternatives to complement the lack of
energy is the use of thermal power plants, which can be found as a steam turbines, gas
turbines and in combined cycle power plants.
With the advent of a new technology for thermal plants operating in combined cycle, there
was the necessity of developing a coherent modeling of this process, to which one the points
of control must be defined to determine their influence in the dynamic performance of the
generation plant or even in the interconnected electric system in Brazil (SIN). Such necessity
was proved through experience obtained with the first plants operating in combined cycle in
the country.
This technology can be considered recent in Brazil. It is not only used in large scale and,
because of this, there is not enough domain of its characteristics. This way it is necessary to
develop operative criteria, standards of performance and adjusted models for each plant in
function of its constructive and operational characteristics, in order to represent accurately the
restrictions that have influenced in the electric operation of the SIN.
Therefore, the aim of the present work is to point many types of configurations with respect to
operation of thermal plants in combined cycle, with the development of mathematical models
that describe the dynamic behavior of the power plant in studies of electromechanical
stability, evaluating its performance in an electrical power system.
