Resumo:
The industrial environment engaged in a high market competition has taken companies to re think their organization forms in an attempt to adopt more cooperative strategies, qualifying
their relationship with clients and, mainly, with their suppliers. However, this new form of
relationship among companies, based in the agents’ supply chain interdependency, means
imposes management techniques, between among is included “Supply Chain Management”
(SCM).
The development and the application of the SCM concepts inside present growth in the
automotive industry because existing the high level of competitiveness in this activity and to
it is the first one in the implantation of technological and management innovations of the
industrial branch. It is the case, for example, of the implantation of new productive
arrangements, as the Modular Consortium, based on the transference of the activities of
assembly of the products for the suppliers of modules. To its consolidation, these suppliers
start to occupy the same plant of the responsible company for the consortium.
The study purpose is to show analysis on main practices of commercial vehicles assembler
who adopts the Modular Consortium structure and is responsible for the supply chain
coordination, of which it is part. It was verified the influence of Modular Consortium
organization in the chain integration and coordination.
After a bibliographic survey on SCM, integration process and supply chain coordination,
modular manufacturing and SCM practices on the automotive industry, it was made a “case –
study ” of Volkswagen Truck and Bus Plant in Resende-RJ, where, modular partners
industrial managers, logistic and body shop/paint shop manufacturing managers were
interviewed besides having the surveyor direct comments.
In general way, Modular Consortium seems to be more appropriate to assembly activities than
to construction activities. Highlighting major integration of assembler with first tier suppliers,
due to physical proximity, and their engagement in new projects development. I concluded
that the integration and coordination of supply chain is directly affected by chain
configuration, informatiomative technology structure used and organizational structure
adopted. Besides that, performance must be considered as an important factor in this context,
representing an efficient source of information to help in decisions. Information on
performance sharing helps coordination and integration of each part of chain and reduces
conflicts between parts. Organization shows some difficulties to coordinate even the current
days supply chain management. Finally, it was verified that the management model chosen,
Modular Consortium, is linked to the company strategy.
