Resumo:
This work evaluates the relation between Six Sigma projects implementation and the
costs of quality. It initially presents the theories concerning both the costs of quality and the
Six Sigma methodology, and later on, it describes a case study in an automotive company. As
a conclusion, the work shows that the appraisal costs are not influenced by any alteration in
the processes caused by Six Sigma projects. Regarding prevention cost, it kept itself constant
in the first process analyzed, whereas the sigma level varied from 1.7 to 3.2. In the second
process, the prevention costs were reduced with an increase in the sigma level from 3.4 to 4.
Regarding the failure costs, it can be concluded, as expected, that they have an opposite
relation to the sigma level of the process, that is, as the sigma level in the process increases,
the failure costs decrease.
