In Grinding, geometrical irregularities called surface texture and surface integrity are
normally controlled. To obtain a good surface texture and better surface integrity,
depends to a large extend on choosing the cutting parameters. These parameters are
the cutting speed, the table speed and the depth of cut per pass. This work presents the
influence of these parameters on the finishing surface and the subsurface when their
levels are changed. The finishing surface, residual stresses and surface alterations were
analysed. A 23 factorial design was used in the surface finish evaluation. The results of
the analysis prove that in the double disc grinding with CBN of hardened steels ISO
6621-3 subclass MC 66, there is no thermal damage on the surface and the residual
stresses have a tendency to be compressive on the surface and higher when grinding
conditions are not soft. The influence of the cutting speed, table speed and depth of cut
was not significant, but their interactions, were found to play a more significant role in
the finishing surface.
