Resumo:
In the current context of digital culture in which society is immersed, with increasing access to
digital information and communication networks, questions about the critical use of
information and media emerge. In this scenario, it is necessary to work with media and
information literacy (MIL) already in the basic schooling to develop critical reading on
information conveyed in digital media and networks as well as promote scientific education
considering the elements that constitute the digital culture. In this perspective, this work aims
to understand the perceptions of teachers of the early years of elementary school about their
role in the training process for MIL and scientific education of students of basic education in
the context of digital culture. The methodological organization follows the premises of
qualitative research. The subjects of the research are graduates of an extension course on
emerging technologies for learning offered by a Brazilian public university. The data collection
instruments were, in the first stage, a questionnaire; and in the second stage, individual semistructured
interviews. Results show that the teachers (s) are immersed in digital culture, making
use of the internet both for work and leisure activities. In addition, they use digital platforms in
the classroom, especially YouTube, and also digital learning objects. Study participants use the
internet with students for research as well as books and offline library materials. They have the
notion of MIL as a right for the promotion of citizenship and recognize the importance of their
role in this demand, as well as point out the need for initial and continuing teacher training that
allows the development of MIL skills. The study is limited by the number of participants in the
interviews, restricting the context of analysis. Still, bring contributions to reflection of the role
of these professionals for the promotion of MIL in the perspective of scientific education for
the promotion of citizenship in digital culture.
