Resumo:
In December 2019, in the city of Wuhan (China), Covid19 was identified. The disease
became a pandemic from March 2020, with impacts on health, social and economic areas.
In the following years, the world was faced with a health and health crisis, resulting from
the Covid-19 Pandemic, a situation that generated transformations in the population's way
of being. After the period of isolation, and with the return of economic and social activity,
the emerging need to think about health education strategies for the population became
evident. In this context, the school environment proved to be a space conducive to
discussion, due to the need for preventive measures and awareness among the population
regarding health care. In this sense, it is clear that the science and biology teacher has a
fundamental role in instructing students so that they become conscious citizens who are
aware of the problems that involve health as a whole. In this way, this research emerges,
given the need to verify how the topic of health is included in the initial training curricula
of biological sciences professionals. Using a qualitative approach, documents from the
Pedagogical Projects for Degree Courses in Biological Sciences at Public Higher
Education Institutions in the South of Minas Gerais were analyzed. The results
demonstrate that the programmatic contents of the curricular subjects and the extension
activities are still not consistent with what was expected, and that they need to be critically
rethought, so that they start to encourage reflection on the theme of health education, from
the perspective of the social reality in which the student is inserted, so that there is
professional performance, especially for those with a degree in biological sciences,
committed to the transformation of society, and the perception of community health.
Therefore, it is suggested that more studies can be carried out on the same topic, in other
regions and universities in the country, in order to stimulate discussion about the training
of professionals in biological sciences, and promote discussion and necessary changes.
