Resumo:
This research investigated the feasibility of developing and implementing a Business Intelligence (BI) solution to support the academic management and control of idle vacancies in undergraduate courses at the Federal University of Itajubá (UNIFEI). To understand the research context, a systematic mapping study was initially conducted, identifying trends and challenges faced by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) globally. The adopted methodology was Action Research, structured into five phases: planning, data collection, analysis, implementation, and evaluation. The requirements elicitation stage used participant observation and interviews with stakeholders, and the data was processed through qualitative analysis. After data analysis and action planning, the architecture and model of the solution were defined. The tool was developed using Python and other open-source technologies, and was named GABI Uni. In the evaluation, time and operational effort were measured, comparing the manual process to the automated one. A questionnaire based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was also applied to assess the perceived usefulness and ease of use. The results demonstrated a significant efficiency gain, with an approximately 95% reduction in the time required to identify idle vacancies. The perception of the voluntary participants revealed a high acceptance of the solution. Additionally, the system acted as a diagnostic instrument, highlighting inconsistencies in the primary data input. It is concluded that the tool is feasible and effective, promoting the modernization of managerial processes and equipping the institution for evidence-based management.
